Brief History of Bandon Fire Station

this section is still under construction

Mobilisation

Operating with a total crew of nine men and one woman. Bandon covers over 200 town lands, eighty square miles and answering on average up to 140 emergency calls per year.

Retained Fire Fighters work their normal occupations and are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 365 days a year. They are paid a 'retainer' to be on call and respond to fire calls when required.

On calling the Fire Service the caller is transferred to C.A.M.P. ( Computer Aided Mobilasation Project ) where an operator enters all the details into the computer system i.e. type of call, where the call is, callers name and any other information required.

The computer will recognize the town or town land and will automatically alert the nearest Fire Station or in some cases the nearest two Stations. All this being done while the caller is still on the phone. In the event that the nearest Station is at a call already it will alert the second turnout Station automatically.

The crew pagers are activated and the crew makes there way to the station. On arrival they receive a printout containing all the relevant information. On leaving the station a 'status' message is sent to control to inform them that they are 'mobile to incident' and another 'status' message when they are 'in attendance'. During the incident you can communicate by voice message and status messages need to be sent to the computer when you are 'available at incident', 'mobile and available' and 'at home station'
